"Challenging the Road
Ahead"
To borrow an expression from one
of my favorite movies - "you have a
marvelous felicity of expression." ...
Hearing about how you
conceptualized the trip and the day
to day execution of that concept was
inspiring.  It kinda makes you feel
like all us common folk could do
something too.

Thanks for the copy of your book!   I
just got it from the mailbox and
have been reading it for the last
couple of hours.  It is great!!  I
can't wait until my husband gets
home from his meeting to show it
to him.

I particularly loved how you
mixed  it up - telling about your walk
and then also giving advice/
thoughts/encouragement about life
in general.

I have to tell you that your book is
inspiring and simply wonderful.
It's so down to earth and
interesting.  I didn't want to put it
down.

CHALLENGING THE ROAD AHEAD
SO IS ANYTHING NEW?

        LIFE WITHOUT ADVENTURE IS EXISTENCE

Ron and Dorothy Martin did not make the 2009 walk across the
Midwest again as they had hoped.  Their original adventure led
them 1038 miles through North Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri,
Illinois, and Indiana ... a total of over two and one-half million
steps.  However, they have hopes of making the challenge again
in 2010.

Mr. Martin, with his wife Dorothy, walked from Dallas, Texas in 2004 to
Akron, Indiana to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  The irony
of this feat is that it was accomplished after Martin had recovered from
a 40 year battle with disabling arthritis.  Their goal remains the same as
in 2004 which is to complete 1000 miles in 100 days.  That goal inspired
the name of their website,
www.1000miles100days.com.

The Martin motto is “The choices I make, make the choices I have,”
and their favorite saying is, “You don’t quit playing because you get
old you get old because you quit playing.”

The Martins have several tasks to complete prior to undertaking this
new adventure.  That list includes but is not limited to:  Find a driver
who will transport them to areas to shower and sleep after each day’s
trek; locate a publicist; obtain a sponsor(s); and choose a non-profit
organization to benefit through raising funds while on this journey.

Becoming a first time author was the result of the 2004 journal entries
posted on the 1000miles100days website.  Several asked Mrs. Martin
to put her unique experiences, inspirational thoughts, and wellness
tips in book form.  Thus the publication of "Challenging the Road
Ahead" was stimulated.  She is also a motivational speaker and a past
columnist for "BABY BOOMER Health, Beauty & Fitness/Dallas
Women."
